XIV INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL FESTIVAL “ENCULTURATION”
5-10 OCTOBER

Lithuania, Klaipėda
Frequencies of Freedom
Literature and radio have always carried texts and voices across borders: conveying knowledge, enabling resistance and safeguarding self-expression. Today, texts are born in podcasts and independent media, becoming platforms for free thought. This year, “Inkultūracija” will explore freedom of expression and ask: do we still trust the word, do we still value freedom, and will we remain a democratic society?
As we mark the centenary of Lithuanian Radio, we will bring to the stage radio journalists who are heard but rarely seen, alongside some of the boldest writers. Fiction, non-fiction and journalism will meet at the festival. The forms may differ, but the purpose is the same: to speak and to feel the frequencies of freedom.

Pre-Festival Events

From September 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026
Series “Literary Frequencies at the Museum”
Literature travels into museums and speaks not from the pages of books, but within exhibition spaces. To mark the centenary of Lithuanian Radio, the festival programme places special emphasis on the dialogue between literature and sound, inviting visitors to enrich their usual museum experience through listening and to discover the world of radio drama and storytelling.
At the Lithuanian Sea Museum, visitors will be able to hear actor Sigutis Jačėnas’s recorded tribute to poet Salys Šemerys, “Oh Seas, Sails…”; at the History Museum of Lithuania Minor, they will hear “I Would Go Down to Klaipėdužė…”, a collection of regional tales produced by the public institution “One Actor Theatre”; and at the Pranas Domšaitis Gallery, Nijolė Drungilaitė’s radio play “Two Together” will be presented.
Locations: Lithuanian Maritime Museum (3 Smiltynės St.),
Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor (2 Didžioji Vandens St.),
The Pranas Domšaitis Gallery of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art (33 Liepų St.)

Starting at 2:00 p.m. on September 26, 2026
Audio Tour “Melody Alley” with Adomas Zube
In public space, we are constantly surrounded by texts: signs, advertisements, warnings, notices and writing on walls. These phrases seem to address us – informing, instructing, enticing and warning us – yet often remain merely the background noise of everyday life. Sound artist Adomas Zubė invites us to listen afresh to the language of the city. During “Melody Alley”, texts encountered in public spaces will become musical material: different registers of language, from institutional announcements to spontaneous urban inscriptions, will merge into a polyphonic sound composition.
“Melody Alley” explores the city as an ever-sounding choir in which instructions, promises, prohibitions, advertising slogans and accidental poetic fragments intertwine. Inspired by Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities”, the work asks: in what voices does the city speak to us? During the walk, the surroundings will become a score – a place where different urban forces, rhythms and voices collide.
Duration: 1 hour
Location: Public Spaces in Klaipėda
Participants: sound artist, sound designer and radio producer Adomas Zubė.
Partner: NARA and the Šeiko Dance Theater
The tours on September 26 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.are fully booked. If you’d like to participate, please sign up for the waiting list. If a spot becomes available, we will contact those who have registered.

The “Enculturation” Festival invites you to the Klaipėda Book Fair, which, just like last year, will take place in the industrial “Hofas” hangar, near the Danė River and the park.
This year’s fair isn’t just a chance to meet publishers—it’s also an opportunity to discover the latest literature, immerse yourself in the worlds of comics and manga, and pick up vinyl records, souvenirs, tickets to shows, and much more.
On October 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., book presentations and meet-and-greets with authors will take place at the “Hofo” venue.
We welcome everyone, from loyal readers to curious city wanderers. Come, immerse yourself in the world of books and feel the pulse of culture in a new space!
