Prof. dr. Vasilijus Safronovas

A scholar of collective memory, identity formation and changing historical narratives in Lithuania and the former East Prussian region in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. As Director of Klaipėda University’s Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology, he focuses on memory politics, urban history, competing national identities and the role of history in public space. His research and publications make an important contribution to contemporary studies of historical memory in the Baltic region.
