In the digital age, where information is instantly available, reading habits are changing rapidly – we are increasingly reading in a hurried, superficial and uninvolved way. These changes challenge personal thinking, societal literacy and democratic resilience. The media are also having a major impact on the transformation of reading, changing not only the formats in which we consume information, but also the structure of our attention and our ability to concentrate.
The event “The Futurology of Reading. What can culture do?” will analyse contemporary developments in reading and discuss the role of culture in fostering attentive and deep reading in future societies. It will also present the Ljubljana Reading Manifesto, which highlights the importance of attentive reading as a skill that must be consciously fostered.
The event will be held in English with translation into Lithuanian.
The event is part of the Erasmus+ project “New competences for librarians in the development of non-formal adult education”.
