Meeting with Author Ju Peijun (Taiwan) “Taiwan Through One Person’s Story”

Participants: writer Ju Peijun (Taiwan); journalist Agnė Bukartaitė. Translator: Ieva Driukienė.
Sometimes one person’s life can contain the history of an entire country. The presentation of the graphic novel “The Man from Taiwan” tells a story of memory, identity and the search for freedom in the face of political upheaval. The comic recounts the true story of Taiwanese citizen Cai Kunlin, spanning the period of Japanese colonial rule, the White Terror, imprisonment and the country’s democratisation. How does a personal story become testimony to collective memory, and how can comics become a way of addressing a difficult past and a society’s journey towards democracy? Graphic novelist Ju Peijun and journalist Agnė Bukartaitė will explore these questions.
The event will be held in Mandarin Chinese with interpretation into Lithuanian.
Partners: Vytautas Magnus University; “Aukso žuvys” publishing house.
