Prof. dr. Liutauras Degėsys

Poet, writer, philosopher.

He graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in Philosophy and Psychology and holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree. He has interned and taught in Prague, Budapest, Istanbul, Sweden, and has studied and taught at the University of Iowa, USA, and Montclair State University, USA. He is currently a professor at Klaipėda University. Liutauras Degėsys has published 10 books of poetry, five collections of philosophical essays and four novels. He has published more than 90 articles in the cultural press and on various internet portals. Liutauras Degėsys is the author of monographs, scientific articles and textbooks: he has written 7 textbooks for adult education, secondary and higher education. Liutauras Degėsys is a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union. He is a member of the Lithuanian PEN Centre. He has been awarded the Ministry of Culture Prize for Journalism twice (2010, 2017) and the Government Prize for Culture and Art for poetry and philosophical essay books (2013). In 2020, he won the Vaižgantas Prize for prose and journalism.
