Bronja Žakelj

Bronja Žakelj (Slovenia) graduated in journalism, worked in marketing and now in banking. Although working in finance does not give her much room for creativity, she has never abandoned her love for writing. Her debut autobiographical novel, “Whites Wash at Ninety”, was published in 2018 and has been translated into many languages (Croatian, Italian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Hebrew, Polish). The novel was not only a bestseller for “Beletrina” publishing house, but also one of the bestsellers in Slovenia in recent decades. The book has also been praised by literary critics and won the prestigious Kresnik Award for the best Slovenian novel of the year in 2019. In 2025, the novel was made into a film (directed by Marko Naberšnik).
