Arvydas Karvelis

Painter, graphic artist, and installation creator, born in 1965 in Klaipėda. From 1983 to 1990, he studied graphic design at the Lithuanian State Art Institute (now VDA). Since 1995, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association, and from 1989 to 1995 he belonged to the artists’ group “Doooooris.” He has been participating in exhibitions since 1989 and has held more than 30 solo exhibitions. His work is characterized by the principles of surprise and chance, layering of textures, roughening of surfaces, and incrustation of details, which reveal a multi-layered, sometimes melancholic world. Humor can be felt in the titles of his works, while the artworks themselves convey existential solitude and longing.
