Accessibility statement

Klaipėda County Ievos Simonaitytė Public Library is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience to all users regardless of ability, including those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnification software and alternative keyboard input devices when browsing the internet.

Continuous efforts to ensure accessibility

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as a guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content usable. When we add new pages and functionality to our website, all design, code and content input methods are checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and address any deficiencies to meet or exceed the standards. Our website testing is carried out by members of our team using industry-standard tools such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress plugin, colour contrast analysers, keyboard-only navigation techniques and Flesch-Kincaid text readability tests.

Accessibility features on our website

Here’s a list of the elements we’ve added to our website to improve its accessibility:

  • We use advanced software that takes care to improve our products in terms of accessibility for people with disabilities.
  • We have tested and periodically test the website with automated tools.
  • We have tested and periodically test the website with the NVDA screen scanner.
  • We try to follow best practices for making websites accessible to people with disabilities.
  • We are constantly improving our knowledge and skills in making websites accessible to people with disabilities.

Where we improve

To bring our website up to standard, we focus on the following areas:

  • Not all links to other pages open in the same browser tab.
  • The biscuit bar is not being read correctly by the screen reader.

This is part of our wider efforts to make everyone’s experience on this website welcoming and enjoyable. Please note that while we make every effort to make information available to all users, we cannot guarantee the availability of third party sites to which we may link.
