In the digital age, the word is becoming ever more powerful: it can connect people, bring communities together and create meaning, but it can also wound, divide and mislead. Journalist Karolis Vyšniauskas and literary scholar Saulius Vasiliauskas will consider how to preserve freedom of speech without losing responsibility for its impact on others. They will discuss how digital technologies and social media are changing our communication habits and ways of speaking, and ask whether in the future we will be able to use words consciously – or increasingly become hostages to words and to the algorithms that shape them.
